In 2016, Kyoto Journal founder John Einarsen began sharing photos of the city’s quirky, miniature buildings on Instagram. Our followers loved the series and we decided to crowdfund the publication of a book. We reached our goal of $10,000 in 6 days.
30 Years of Kyoto Journal: a photographic retrospective
(April - May 2017)
With a global network of renowned photographers contributing to each issue, photography has always had a central role in Kyoto Journal. Presented as part of the international festival Kyotographie, this exhibition showcased photographs from the the magazine’s archive of 88 issues which spans 30 years of publication.
