Data Exhibit for Biotech Week Boston
Experiential Creative Lead for a re-imagined scientific poster session
The transformative effect that AI will have on biological engineering can be hard to visualize. Data is the essential resource that powers machine learning applications and biological data has always been one of Ginkgo’s strengths and a key differentiator—but what does all this data look like and what does it mean for our customers?
To explore the above, we designed a multi-layered data exhibit circling Ginkgo’s state-of-the-art mammalian lab. The exhibit path showcased 5 sets of scientific posters, anchored by a floor-to-ceiling graphical representation of 500,000 engineered microbial strains in Ginkgo’s database. We incorporated data motifs from this representation in floor decals and layered fabrics to activate the exhibit path while playful, IBM-inspired culture posters reinforced Ginkgo’s innovative approach to large-scale data.
Ginkgo Open House for BIO International
Experiential Creative Lead and Producer of an out-of-home activation during BIO International
Ginkgo hosted an Open House in conjunction with the BIO International conference, held just down the street from Ginkgo HQ. Within BIO’s one-hour lunch window, our challenge was to transport over 400 attendees to Ginkgo’s office, send them on a Foundry Tour, serve lunch, and transport them back to the conference in time for the next session.
We leaned into pedicabs branded with conference-specific bumper sticker quotes and driver’s outfitted in a Ginkgo “Hotline Tee.” On the short journey through Boston’s rapidly changing Seaport District, attendees were handed a bumper sticker matching their pedicab and a flyer of Ginkgo’s offerings as a prelude to their guided tour.
Ginkgo Creative Residency
Coordinator
For Ginkgo’s 2022 Creative Residency, artist and educator Corinne Okada Takara explored the question: can a playful approach to synthetic biology reveal new relations between humans and nature that cultivate comfort, joy, and dignity? Corinne designed The Floating Kīpuka Grow Kit, a LEGO-based platform designed by Corinne for dreaming sustainable and equitable biofutures. Learn more about The Ginkgo Creative Residency.
